A verb is often defined as a word which show or describe an action or a state. Recognizing the verb is the most important step in understanding the meaning of a sentence.
( run, walk, talk, jump)
* The dog bit the man,
* Nowadays, people prefer to
communicate via e-mail.
Bit and communicate is the verb and the word which shows the action of the sentence.
( be, do, have, believe, know )
* She is a smart girl
* There is a lot of confusion
concerning the memo
There is no action but a state of being expressed by the verb is. The word be is different from other verbs in many ways but can still be thought of as a verb.
There is something very special about verbs in English. Most other words (adjectives, adverbs, prepositions etc) do not change in form (although nouns can have singular and plural forms).
